The 55th annual convention of the Central Conference of American Rabbis opened here today at the Hotel Gibson, with 200 delegates in attendance, including a number of Army chaplains.
The convention approved a resolution adopted by the executive board of the C.C.A.R. commending its president, Dr. Solomon B. Freehof, “for his very able and comprehensive reply to the Congregation Beth Israel of Houston, Tex.”
“We feel that he has forcefully expressed the present viewpoint of the Central Conference of American Rabbis and of Reform Judaism on the question raised by the Houston congregation, and we would recommend that the reply made by the president constitute the official response of our conference to Congregation Beth Israel,” the resolution reads.
Today’s session also approved the action of the representatives of the central Conference of American Rabbis to the American Jewish Conference. Robert P. Golden, former president of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, welcomed the conference to Cincinnati.
