Plans for training rabbis especially equipped to serve the hard of hearing were launched here today at the fourth biennial convention of the National Congress of Jewish Deaf. The organization is composed of 1,000 Jewish deaf throughout the country. The convention will last through Saturday night.
According to Sheldon A. Blumenthal, president of the Congress, the organization’s main objective at the present time is to train deaf candidates to study for the rabbinate. The organization has one member, Alton L. Silver, studying now for the rabbinate at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion at Cincinnati, Mr. Blumenthal said.
