The National Conference of Jewish Social Welfare, meting here, today adopted a resolution urging the passage of proposed legislation to authorize the admission to the U.S. of 100,000 displaced persons ammually for four years.
Other resolutions adopted by the 800 Jewish welfare and educational leaders attanding the conference advocated full support of the current $170,000,000 United Jewish Appeal campaign, support of the International Relief Organization and recognition of the rights of Jews to migrate freely into Palestine.
Louis H. Sobel, secretary of the Joint Distribution Committee, was elected president of the National Conference of Jewish Social Welfare. Samuel C. Kohs of an Francisco was elected first vice-president; Jacob H. Kravitz of Dallas, second vice-president; Max Engler of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies in New York, treasurer; and Herbert H. Aptekar, executive director of the Jewish Community Service of Queens-Nassau in Jamaica, L.I., secretary. Dr. Ben M. Edidin, assistant director of the Jewish Education Committee of New York, was re-elected president of the National Council of Jewish Education.
