The 58th annual convention of the National Conference of Jewish Communal Service whose members include all the major Jewish federations, welfare funds, community councils, national communal associations as well as individual social workers, opened here today at the Chase-Park Plaza Hotel.
The traditional forum of discussion and review of the professional level of Jewish communal service, the convention is devoted to a critical examination of the immediate future needs of the Jewish community. “Our focus is the changing Jewish community changes in the location of the Jewish population in our cities, in its forms of organizations in the needs of the people it is attempting to serve, “Roland Baxt, president, said today, “What these changes are, how they are affecting what we do, and how we are adjusting our thinking and doing to the social and economic forces that are shaping and reshaping our lives will be the theme of our 1956 conference.”
A concentrated schedule of over 80 sessions has been arranged for the four-day meeting to discuss the various aspects of the problems which these needs will create for agencies and practitioners in the fields of care for the aged, community organization and relations social welfare, group work and health services, vocational guidance, and Jewish education.
