The Soviet Union is trying “to coerce Soviet citizens of the Jewish faith into denouncing Israel,” Malcolm A. Tarlov, national commander of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States, charged here today. He spoke at the opening session of the 72nd annual convention of the Jewish war veteran’s organization.
“As a result of Israel’s defeat of the Communist-backed Arab forces,” he said, “Communist anti-Semitism has increased. All the Communist nations, except Rumania, are wreaking vengeance against their Jewish citizens because Israel survived and defeated the onslaught that the Communists encouraged. Among the Communist states, he charged, Poland is now experiencing “a new wave of anti-Semitism.” ousting Jews from Government posts.
Soviet anti-Semitism is one of the current world issues on the convention’s agenda, along with a full review of the Middle East crisis. Among the prominent speakers scheduled to address the parley is Israel’s Ambassador Gideon Rafael, permanent representative to the United Nations.
