The Central Conference of American Rabbis, which is holding its 66th annual convention here, today came out squarely for desegregation. The 400 Reform rabbis attending the convention endorsed a resolution submitted by the Joint Social Action Commission of CCAR and the Union of American Hebrew Congregations pledging “to do all within our power to make the decision of the Supreme Court meaningful in our respective communities.”
Rabbi Tibor Fabian, of Dover, Delaware, reported that in Milford, scene of anti-integration riots last year, no Jewish merchant signed the petition denouncing desegregation and none of the 18 Jewish children absented himself from school during the student strike against desegregation.
