A call for the establishment of a permanent committee to coordinate the activities of the four Orthodox rabbinical organizations now in existence in this country was issued here today at the annual convention of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada.
The call was issued by Rabbi Judah Altuski, of The Bronx, who told the parley that the various branches of organized Orthodoxy in America must “discuss the future, and create a common platform for all earnest and well-intentioned Orthodox rabbis.”
In another address, Rabbi Shlomo David Shapiro, of Brooklyn, called upon the rabbis to come out clearly in favor of federal aid to parochial schools and in favor of the type of prayer in public schools which was banned by the United States Supreme Court decision of last June.
