A military cordon was thrown today around the Bleidern DP camp here while officials are investigating an alleged abduction of two U.S. soldiers by a group of displaced Jews last Wednesday. The inquiry was ordered by Gen. Lucius D. Clay, commander of the American zone in Germany.
According to official and Jewish sources, three U.S. soldiers assaulted a displaced Jew outside the camp, who later summoned help. The crowd of incensed Jews ##istook two passing soldiers, Pvt. Robert C. Kennedy and Pvt. Thomas W. Ulrich, for the original assailants, seized them and brought them into the camp. Neither soldier was seriously injured and both were released within an hour of their abduction. Some reports quoted Kennedy as saying he was beaten.Army authorities were pressing their search for 50 DP’s in the camp area who are suspected of direct participation in the incident. The residents of the camp have been restricted to the camp area and no arrests have been made as yet either of soldiers or Jews.
