A cornerstone for a new Church of the Annunciation was laid in Nazareth yesterday at a ceremony attended by Msgr. Alberto Gori, Roman Catholic Patriarch in Jerusalem, representatives of various other churches in the country and Dr. M. Goldin, representative of the Israel Ministry of Religion. who called the ceremony an important event for Israel.
The new church will be built on the site on which five previous churches have been built in the last 1,600 years, including one by the Romans and another by the Crusaders.
