The Egyptian press, which is carefully watching developments in Palestine, reports today that the establishment of a Legislative Council in Palestine will definitely take place next Spring despite Jewish opposition.
The Council will consist of twenty-four elected members, thirteen of them Moslems, six Jews and five Christians, and ten officials who will be appointed by the Palestine government. Only citizens of Palestine will be allowed to vote in the Council elections, the press reports.
TO SETTLE ELECTION PLAN
Sir Arthur Wauchope, High Commissioner of Palestine, will shortly proceed to London to reach a decision with the Colonial Office there on the question of whether the elections should be conducted on a nation-wide basis or carried out along the same lines as the Municipal elections.
The Arabs in Palestine demand a general election in order to prevent the Jews from electing such Arabs as would be desirable for Jewish interests.
The Egyptian press further reports that the Executive of the Legislative Council will consist of one Moslem, one Jew and one Christian.
