Four women from the New York metropolitan area were elected members of the board of directors of the National Council of Jewish Women today at the concluding session of the fourteenth triennial convention.
The quartet comprises Mrs. Julius Wolf of New York; Mrs. Benjamin Spitzer, Brooklyn; Mrs. Judah Dresner, Yonkers, N. Y., and Mrs. Leo Abrahams, Newark, N. J.
Other members elected are Mrs. Israel Bernstein, Portland, Me.; Mrs. Louis Kaufman, Montgomery, Ala.; Mrs. Edgar Mendeson, Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Arthur Goldsmith, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Herman Barnett, New Orleans; Mrs. Max Grimes, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Max Meyer, El Paso, Tex.; Mrs. Harry Samuels, Toronto, Ont.; Mrs. Mark Lansburgh, Washington, D. C.; and Mrs. Carl Wolff, Terre Haute, Ind.
Resolutions were adopted by the council urging extension of the merit system of Federal employment to include the field service of regular departments and agencies of the government, favoring government loans to aid slum clearance and housing programs and advocating unemployment insurance, minimum wage legislation and more adequate Federal legislation to insure pure foods and drugs.
