The launching of an enlarged program in the field of vocational guidance and employment together with a plan to unite its three national offices in New York was authorized here yesterday at the twelfth triennial convention of the National Council of Jewish Women. Mrs. M. C. Sloss, honorary vice-president of the Council, submitted a recommendation for a nation-wide appeal for funds to carry on the work of the Council. A special resolution of tribute to Mrs. Estelle M. Sternberger of New York, for her ten years service as executive secretary was adopted.
Reports from various committees indicated that the Council is supporting a tremendous variety of social service institutions and agencies. Another report urged that the Council go on record as being opposed to calendar reform. Mrs. Sternberger, who was the Council’s delegate last June to the World Organization of Jewish Women, of which organization she was elected secretary when it was founded in Hamburg, reported on the sessions at Hamburg. In this connection a recommendation was offered suggesting that the Council affiliate with the World Organization of Jewish Women.
