The Jews of the city of Quebec are aroused over the act of the City Council which passed at its first reading, an amendment refusing the Jewish community permission to build a synagogue in Belvedere Ward.

Opposition to the granting of permits for the construction of the synagogue had been voiced previously by the Administrative Committee of the City and Alderman La Croix representing the Belvedere Ward.

The anti-Semitic publications have already raised the cry that Jews will never be given permission to construct a new synagogue in Quebec.

Deputy Peter Becovitch has appealed to Premier Taschereau to intervene in this matter. In this plea, the Jewish deputy is joined by the “Canadian Jewish Eagle” of Montreal.
