The annual meeting of the New York section of the National Council of Jewish Women was held yesterday at the Temple Emanu-El Community House. More than 250 members attended.

In the absence of Mrs. William DeYoung Kay, president, who was kept away by illness, Mrs. Nathan Straus Jr., a vice president, read an address prepared by Mrs. Kay. The paper, entitled “The New Deal in Welfare Work,” outlined the work of the Council House at 1122 Forest avenue, the Bronx, in connection with German Jewish refugees, unemployment relief, welfare work and educational classes for adults and children.

“We realize in reviewing the condition of the nation during the past year,”Mrs. Kay’s paper said, “that social responsibility is the keynote of the time. Social responsibility, therefore, must characterize our attitude in approaching the work of our organization. Our organization has worked not as an isolated unit but in conjuction with other national and further group projects and have a responsible part in a larger whole.”

Entertainment was provided by mothers and children of the Council House who presented a revue, “The Council House Frolics.”

All present officers were re-elected at the annual elections of the section.
