Criticism by Israeli army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Shaul Mofaz of his outgoing deputy is being seen as part of an escalating battle over who will replace Mofaz when his term ends in July. Prime Minister Ehud Barak reportedly wants Maj. Gen. Uzi Dayan, whom he named to be national security adviser, to fill the post. Mofaz is said to prefer the incoming deputy chief of staff, Maj. Gen. Moshe Ya’alon.
