A protest in the House of Commons against the action of the English General Electric Company, in excluding non-Britishers from its new issue of shares, was made by Col. Josiah Wedgwood yesterday.
Sir Hugo Hirst, chairman of the English General Electric Company, is made the object of attacks in the press, including the London “Times,” for this action by his company. The newspapers declare that Sir Hugo, whose name was Hirsch, came to England from Germany as a young boy without means. Today he is one of the ruling industrialists of England.
In voicing his protest, Col. Wedgwood said that the action was injurious to England’s reputation.
