Cuban President Fidel Castro visited a Havana synagogue, where he mingled with 200 congregants during Chanukah celebrations last month. Castro spent about two hours in the synagogue and participated in the lighting of Chanukah candles, according to officials of the Canadian Jewish Congress, which has been helping the 1,200-member Cuban Jewish community for more than 30 years. Community leader Jose Miller told CJC officials that Castro expressed his admiration for the Jewish people and spoke out against racism.
