A cultural center, “Bet Michael,” named after Michael Weizmann, son of Israel’s President, who lost his life while an officer of the Royal Air Force in World War II, was dedicated yesterday in Kfar Hanasi, Northern Galilee. Mrs. Chaim Weizmann and many notables attended the cornerstone laying ceremony. President Weizmann, himself unable to attend because of illness, sent a message pointing out that the establishment of a cultural center was a fitting tribute to the memory of his son.
The first trees in the Weizmann Forest were planted during the week-end on the slopes of the Judean hills near Etsaul, in the presence of Mrs. Chaim Weizmann, Premier David Ben Gurion, Viscount Samuel, Lord Nathan, British Minister Alexander Knox Helm and leaders of the Jewish National Fund. Messages from Dr. Weizmann and Winston Churchill were read at the planting ceremony. Mr. Churchill described himself as “a lifelong Zionist.”
