A series of activities and celebrations was staged here by the B’er Chayim Congregation in observance of its 100th anniversary. Congratulatory messages poured in from all over the country, including those of President Eisenhower and Governor McKeldln. B’er Chayim traces its founding to an act passed by the Legislature of Maryland on May 23, 1853, incorporating the congregation, which at that time was composed of 12 Jewish families in Cumberland.
