The Lithuanian government is considering the suppression of all Lithuanian Zionist youth organizations and the intercession of Jewish groups has been unsuccessful, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned today.
Yesterday the chief of police of Siauliai ordered the closing of the Zionist youth organization offices for one year. In recent weeks Lithuania has been the scene of numerous anti-Jewish outbreaks. The Lithuanian government, in a statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, minimized some of the incidents and completely denied others. However, Lithuanian Jewish organizations have confirmed the stories and denied government allegations that Jews were responsible for the attacks.
