A British constable was seriously wounded early today in one of nine explosions that destroyed six public telephone booths in Tel Aviv. Another of the explosions, all of which occurred after midnight, started a fire in the Tel Aviv railway station. The blaze was quickly extinguished.
After visiting the scenes of the explosions, District Commissioner Robert Crosbie imposed city-wide curfew from 10.30 p.m. to four a.m.
Five Arabs were found shot dead this morning in a village near Haifa. Police are investigating.
The military authorities at the last minute postponed execution of an order to demolish four Jewish houses in the Akva cuarter of Tiberias. The demolition, which would have been the first instance of its kind affecting Jewish houses, had been ordered in punishment for yesterday’s mine explosion which resulted in the death of an Arab and the wounding of 12 others.
A group of Jews, estimated to number 80, today raided the headquarters of the extremist Zionist-Revisionist organization. Four Revisionists were injured, one of them seriously in the resulting clash.
