Commissioner of Immigration Curran has declared that in the future welfare societies on Ellis Island will receive information regarding detained immigrants from government officials. They will not be allowed to examine the records themselves, as has previously been the rule because of the lack of available space, and because such work is not strictly welfare activity. They will not be allowed to make appeals from Ellis Island. He claims that he has no prejudice against the welfare organizations. He made the same declaration to representatives of 19 welfare organizations who called on him a few days ago. Non-Jewish welfare societies have announced their intention of appealing from Commissioner Curran’s pronunciamento.
