Edward M. M. Warburg. general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, today made public a cable received from Jerusalem stating that Israel can score in the next 75 days a major victory in its fight to overcome recurrent food shortages if the UJA succeeds in its current five-week emergency effort to raise $25,000,000 in cash.
The cable came from Dr. Giora Josephthal, treasurer of the Jewish Agency in Jerusalem, who said that with the cash funds from the UJA’s current special drive, the Jewish Agency during May and June can establish 36 new agricultural settlements which in a short time can make themselves felt in the battle against austerity. The five-week emergency cash effort, launched on May 1, will terminate June 6 and 7 at a UJA National Action Conference in Washington.
