Further curtailment of the already limited activities of the Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees seemed likely today following an American proposal designed to resolve the crisis precipitated by the British refusal to continue to foot half the bills for the Committee.
Under the U.S. plan, which apparently has British approval, the budget of the Committee for the first six months of 1947 will be cut from the present estimated $14,400,000 to $12,000,000. It is expected that by July of next year, the International Refugee Organization will be functioning and will assume the duties of the IGGR.
