A stormy debate on the Jewish question flared in the Senate today when Senator Jakob Niemirower, chief rabbi of Bucharest, sharply assailed a description of the Jews as “a nation of thieves and murderers,” by Prof. Alexander Cuza, leader of the anti-Semitic National Christian Party.

Senator Niemirower pleaded the high mission of the Jewish religion and stressed the loyalty of the Jews to Rumania, declaring they would not “loss faith in the Rumanian sense of justice.”

When Senator Niemirower attempted to reply to a renewal of the attack by Prof. Cuza, he was shouted down with cries of, “Shut up: Speak in your synagogue.”
