Jewish leaders today submitted a memorandum to Premier Zdenek Fierlinger, protesting the fact that no action has been taken against the persons who participated in an anti-Jewish riot in the Slovakian town of Topolcany last September, during which 68 Jews were injured, several seriously.
The memorandum pointed out that although criminal proceedings were started against 48 persons, only eight were arrested, and even they have been freed. Among the eight were several soldiers and two members of the gendarmerie, none of whom have been disciplined by the military or police authorities.
The Jewish leaders also cited the situation in the village of Kolbasob, in Slovakia, where eleven Jews were murdered in a six-month period without any action being taken to apprehend those responsible for the killings. They demanded that the police are punished for neglect of duty.
