President Edouard Benes was lauded today as embodying the “ideals of justice and humanity which form the foundation of the Czechoslovakian state” in a telegram sent by the Supreme Council of the Union of Jewish Communities.
A plenary session of the council decided to send the message on the occasion of adoption of the new constitution for Jewish communities in accordance with a recent law. The constitution will be submitted to Parliament for ratification.
“The Supreme Council of the Union of Jewish Religious Communities remembers you, Mr. President,” the telegram said, “at the moment when it adopts its constitution with loyal gratitude, for in your personality and work are incorporated those ideals of justice and humanity which form the foundation of the Czechoslovakian State and the guarantee for its future.”
