The Czechoslovak authorities are preparing to release Mordecai Oren, Israel Mapam leader convicted during the Slansky trials and now serving a long prison term, the Czech Minister for Religions has indicated to an Israeli correspondent.
The correspondent, Shimon Samet of Kol Israel, the national radio station, who is now in Czechoslovakia, reported today that in an interview the Minister also told him that his office has responsibility for some 12,000 to 15, 000 Jews living in Czechoslovakia, He said that Oren’s release is expected to improve cultural and trade relations between the two nations.
