Damascus condemned a U.S. helicopter attack inside Syria that killed eight.
The raid reportedly occurred Sunday afternoon in al-Boukamal, about six miles from the border with Iraq.
An Iraqi government spokesman said Monday that the raid targeted an area used by insurgents to plan attacks on Iraq.
Syrian officials said only civilians were killed when the helicopter attacked a building under construction. U.S. State Department officials and U.S. military officials in Iraq have not commented on the raid.
The U.S. military has increased security on the Iraq-Syria border in recent months in an effort to halt the movement of fighters, including suicide bombers, and weapons into Iraq, the Washington Post reported.
