The situation in Palestine as it appeared Tuesday morning was materially unchanged, according to uncensored reports telephoned here from Jerusalem.
According to a report current in Jerusalem this morning, a large number of Bedouin tribes from Transjordania crossed the Jordan and doubt was expressed whether the British military forces available will be sufficiently strong to cope with the situation.
More attacks on the Jewish population in the Old City in Jerusalem are occurring. Jewish families are hurriedly being evacuated from the zone. A large number of Arabs, apparently in preparation for a new attack, gathered Monday evening near the Nablus gate.
Arab house owners who had been friendly to Jews and had given shelter to a number of Jewish families in the Old City, requested these families to seek shelter elsewhere, apparently in anticipation of new attacks.
Isaac Ben-Zvi, Jewish labor leader in Jerusalem, transmitted by telephone a report from Haifa this morning that 25 Jewish youths, employed in the Rothschild flour mill at Haifa, were arrested by the authorities. It was charged that Arabs who are armed are permitted to walk the streets freely. Searches for arms and ammunition in Jewish houses are being made now.
