The attention of the British Government to the dangerous situation which will be created for Jews in Italian-administered Balkan territories when Italy withdraws its troops from that area, was called today by a delegation of the Agudath Israel orthodox organization who visited the Foreign Office.
The delegation pointed out that many Jews in the Axis-occupied Balken countries saved themselves by escaping from the territories under Nazi occupation into sections occupied by the Italian armies. Should they now fall under German administration, they face the prospect of extermination in the same manner as the Jews in Nazi-held parts of Greece, Yugoslavia and Croatia, it was declared.
A report from Switzerland reaching here today states that the chief of police in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv introduced a special curfew for Jews under the pretext that he “suspects Jews in leading anti-Government activities.” The Plovdiv Jes are prohibited to appear in the street from 7 o’clock in the evening to 7 o’clock in the morning.
