The dangerous position of German Jewry, threatened on the one side by the growing economic distress and on the other by the rising tide of antisemitism, completely overshadowed everything else at the opening session here to-day of the newly elected Jewish Parliament, the Federation of Jewish Communities in Prussia. Herr Heinrich Stern, the leader of the Federation of Liberal Jews in Germany, was in the chair, and reports on the work of the Federation were submitted by the President, Dr. Leo Wolff, and the Vice-President, Dr. Alfred Klee, the leader of the Zionist fraction. Protests were made by the speakers against the attempts to murder Jews, as in the last few days in Hamburg and Preussisch-Holland. It is true that the Government is fighting against antisemitism, they said, but the local authorities sometimes refuse to give Jews the protection to which they are entitled.
The organising of economic aid for the distressed Jews of Germany, and plans for fighting antisemitism are the two chief items on the agenda of the Conference, which also includes further consideration of the project for creating an all-German Federation of Jewish Communities.
