Henrik de Kauffmann, Danish Ambassador to the United States, received an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters at a two-day academic convocation of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion here. The degree was awarded as a symbol of appreciation of world Jewry for the heroism and humanity of the Danish people in rescuing 6,500 Danish Jews destined for Hitler’s concentration camps and sending them across the sea to Sweden.
The academic convocation was held to mark the 80th anniversary of the College-Institute, Reform Jewry’s only seminary in the United States, The week-end program featured a series of panel discussions, for students, faculty members and parents of students on “The Future of Our Children as Jews.”
