One thousand Jews who were slated for execution by the Nazis in Simferopol, in the Crimca, were saved by a daring raid of a partisan group which drove off the rescued Jews, who arrived today in Kuibyshev.
Luboshitsky, who had been evacuated to the Crimen from his home in Kiev,related that the Nazis after capturing Simferopol rounded up 12,000 Jews on a public square on the pretext that they were to be sent to forced labor. All day long groups of several hundred Jews were led to the outskirts of the city where, it was subsequently discovered, they were shot. As the last contingent of about 1,000, including Luboshitsky, arrived at the execution grounds, groups of armed partisans appeared and attacked the Germans. After a bloody battle the Nazis were routed and the Jews rcscued.
The Kiev Jew, whose hair turned completely gray as a result of his experiences also told how previously the German soldiers had sprinkled gunpowder in the shape of a Soviet star on the shoulder of a Jewish tailor Moishe Wolynski and then set the powder afire in an attempt to force Wolynski to reveal the whereabouts of the partisans, among whom was his son.
