The mass trial of 104 yeshiva students, most of them under 20 years of age, who were arrested earlier this month for demonstrating against Christian missionary schools here, was set for October 15, after the accused entered a not guilty plea today before Magistrate Eliezer Halevi.
The date was set after the defense counsel asked for time to prepare a brief and indicated that he would call on various religious personalities to show that the demonstration was justified.
The boys are charged with “criminal trespass” into the French St. Joseph’s Convent School and the Finnish Evangelical Mission here. French Vice-Consul Benjamin Cohen attended the hearing as an observer. The hearing was held in the larger premises of the Jerusalem District Court because of the large number of spectators, including colleagues of the accused and crowds of Orthodox Israelis.
