David E. Cohen, publisher of the English-Jewish weekly newspaper “The Scribe,” died here. Born in Charleston, S.C., he came to Portland in 1907 to become associated with Dr. N. Mosessohn and David N. Mosessohn, publishers of the Jewish Tribune. He and Rabbi Jonah B. Wise purchased the publication and changed the name to “The Scribe” in 1919. when Dr. Wise was called to the Central Synagogue in New York City in 1926, Cohen became sole owner.
