Steuart Spencer Davis, treasurer of the Palestine government, will become acting High Commissioner of the country when High Commissioner Chancellor leaves the country at the end of this week. Mr. Davis has been prominently mentioned as the next chief-secretary of Palestine to succeed Harry C. Luke, who was recently appointed lieutenant-governor of Malta.
Mr. Davis has had a long career as a British colonial official. He was in the customs and treasury department of St. Kitts, a British West Indian island. In 1901 he was named assistant treasurer of the Gold Coast and in 1916 was named chief treasurer of Tanganyika Territory, formerly British East Africa. In 1919 he was acting chief secretary of Tanganyika.
