Gen. Moshe Dayan. Israel’s Defense Minister, reported today, after lengthy talks yesterday with leaders and tribal chiefs in the Gaza Strip and Sinai peninsula, that efforts were being made to equalize wages for Arabs in the Gaza with those of the West Bank area. Labor facilities and pay scales were the principal topics of the talks.
(At the United Nations, a spokesman for the Israel mission dismissed as part of the Arab anti-Israel propaganda campaign a charge at an Arab-sponsored press conference that Israel was planning to deport 50,000 residents from the Jabalia camp in Gaza. The press conference, called on behalf of the Arab delegations, was addressed by Jordanian and Sudanese mission members. The Israeli spokesman said that there was no truth whatever to the charge and noted that residents of the camp were free to come and go. The spokesman also noted that during the Egyptian control of the Strip, until Israel seized it last June, Gaza residents were forbidden to leave the Strip at any time for any reason.)
