Defense Minister Moshe Dayan said in the Knesset today that the growing incursions by terrorists and saboteurs, harbored and abetted by Jordan, must be considered like any other war and treated accordingly. Gen. Dayan made the statement in the course of a report on the security situation along the Israel-Jordan demarcation line which he described as “the most active,” far more so than the lines with Egypt, Syria and Lebanon.

Gen. Dayan charged that Jordanian territory was being used by every anti-Israel terrorist organization for training and as a base for sorties into Israel-held territory. They include the Syrian sponsored El Fatah, the Egyptian-paid fedayeen and the Palestinian troops among the Iraqi army contingent that has been in Jordan since last June. He also said there were several groups made up of local Jordanians. The Jordanian Army, he added, gives the terrorists intelligence on the deployment of Israeli troops, helps them cross the Jordan River and deliberately locates terrorist bases in refugee camps along the Jordan Valley. Gen. Dayan said that acts of sabotage cannot influence the military situation but that Israel takes the gravest view of those who aid saboteurs.
