President Charles de Gaulle expressed the hope today that political, economic and cultural relations between France and Israel would continue to be close and friendly. He stressed this sentiment in accepting the credentials of Walter Eytan, Israel’s new Ambassador to France.

Gen. de Gaulle greeted the new envoy at the Elysee Palace in warmer terms than is normal for such ceremonies. He cited the new cultural agreement between France and Israel as one of the examples in which fruitful objectives could be achieved together.

The ceremony took 20 minutes. In his reply, Mr. Eytan recalled the close links binding the two countries. He expressed the hope that Israel and France would continue to cooperate in economic and other matters. The French Foreign Minister, Maurice Couve de Murville and members of the diplomatic staff of the Israel Embassy took part in the meeting.
