The message sent yesterday by Premier Charles de Gaulle to Israel Premier David Ben Gurion, in which the new French Premier expressed his admiration for the courage of the Israelis and indicated that he intends to maintain “solid” friendship with Israel, evoked great satisfaction in official Israeli circles here.
It is pointed out that Gen. de Gaulle is famous for his brevity and austerity of statement. The fact that he expressed so much warmth for Israel in his short message is seen here as proof that he will continue to maintain the same friendly relations with Israel which existed in the previous French Cabinets. These relations have marked France as “Number One” among the governments whose friendship Israel enjoys.
