Captain Erskine-Bolst (Conservative) asked the President of the Board of Trade in the House of Commons to-day if he would state the amount and nature of the products of the Dead Sea imported into this country during the present year, and to what countries any was re-exported.
Mr. Runciman, in his reply, said that during the six months ending October 1931 the only chemicals imported into the United Kingdom and registered as consigned from Palestine were 2,480 cwts. of bromine and bromide. No such imports were registered during the first four months of this year. He was unable to say whether or not they came from the Dead Sea or to what countries if any they were re-exported.
