Israel Finance Minister Eliezer Kaplan this week-end told the Knesset Finance Committee that the Export-Import Bank has extended the Dec. 15 deadline for submission of projects for which the remainder of its $100,000,000 loan to Israel is to be used. Minister Kaplan also announced that the Bank had consented to the interchangeability of credits approved earlier for various projects.
In submitting proposals for continued development of Israel, Minister Kaplan suggested that the government should contribute $6,000,000 to the capital of the Amidar Housing Company, $5,000,000 for facilitating mortgages for individuals who have lived in Palestine not less than five years and $6,000,000 to the construction of new housing for new immigrants.
Seven executive directors of United Jewish Appeal campaigns in large cities of the United States were received this week-end by Israel Premier David Ben Gurion. They told the Premier that they fully realized that continued immigration and settlement were the immediate tasks ahead, and that the costs of discharging these obligations must be met by American Jewry and, to a great extent, through the agency of the United Jewish Appeal.
