Declaring that the services of the Anglican Church are “terribly clogged with Judaism,” Dr. W.R. Inge, 90-year-old former Dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral here, last night proposed a considerable reduction in the use of Old Testament teachings.
In his sermon at the opening service of the Modern Churchmen’s Conference at Cambridge, Dr. Inge quoted in particular the verse of the 68th Pealm and called it “gibberish.” The first verse of the Pealm, beginning with “Let God arise, let the enemies be scattered; And let them that hate Him flee before Him,” is recited at synagogue services whenever the Holy Ark is opened.
