An indication that executions may be carried out on Israelis now in prison under sentence of death was given here today by Dr. Pinchas Rosen, Minister of Justice, More than 20 people are currently under sentence of death in this country.
Winding up a debate on the proposed new criminal code in Parllament, the Minister declared that he no longer felt himself bound by an earlier promise that the Ministry would not order the carrying out of death sentences pending action by Parliament on abolishing capital punishment. He said that he felt released from the pledge because Parliament apparently feels that the “time is not yet ripe to abolish the death penalty.”
