Removal of potential Jewish refugees from Balkan countries to Palestine is not being delayed because of lack of shipping but as a result of the refusal of the governments of those countries to issue exit visas to the Jews, it was stated in commons today by Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden.
Replying to a query by S.S. Hammersley, Conservative, Mr. Eden stated that the British Government was doing all in its power to overcome transportation difficulties, and pointed out that as a result of the opening of the Mediterranean more vessels are available.
Several months ago it was announced that the Bulgarian Government had agreed to allow 4,000 Jewish children and 500 adults to emigrate to Palestine, but all efforts to effect their removal have been thwarted.
