A delegation of top American Jewish leaders spent about an hour today discussing the Middle Eastern situation with Secretary of State Dulles and George V. Allen, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern affairs. The delegation was led by Dr. Nahum Goldmann, of the Jewish Agency.
The concern of 17 major Jewish groups was conveyed to the Department. Developments of the last several weeks were discussed, and it is believed much emphasis was placed on Egypt’s arms deal and the grave danger of imbalance of power that would place Israel in greater jeopardy. It is thought that Mr. Allen reported to the group on his recent trip to Cairo.
The delegation included, in addition to Dr. Goldmann, Philip Klutznick, B’nai B’rith; Rabbi Maurice Eisendrath, Union of American Hebrew Congregations; Rabbi Philip S. Bernstein, American Zionist Committee for Public Affairs, and Adolph Held, Jewish Labor Committee. A report on the conversation will be made by the delegation to the 17 organizations on whose behalf they acted.
