A delegation representing the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations called today on Secretary of State Dean Rusk. The delegation was led by the chairman of the Conference, Label Katz. It included Rabbi Philip Bernstein, chairman of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, Louis Weinstein, president of the National Community Relations Advisory Council, Mrs. Charles V. Hymes, president of the National Council for Jewish Women, and Yehuda Hellman.
High officials of the State Department also participated in the hour-long discussion. Leaving the State Department, Mr. Katz declared that general problems affecting the situation in the Middle East with particular emphasis on American Israel relations, were discussed on behalf of the 18 national Jewish organizations of the Presidents Conference. Mr. Katz said that he would report fully to the next meeting of the Conference which, he termed, as “most useful.”
