A delegation of Christian and Jewish leaders, led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, today conferred with Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden on the situation of the Hungarian Jews.
In disclosing the visit to a meeting of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, Prof. Selig Brodetsky, president, said that there was reason to believe that the reported offer by Regent Horthy of Hungary to allow the Red Cross to evacuate Jewish children, as well as adults possessing Palestine visas, was genuine.
The delegation, Brodetsky added, was given to understand that steps may now be possible which will result in the rescue of a large number of Jews. He stressed that a favorable situation has finally arisen which presents an opportunity for large-scale rescue, but warned that action must be taken immediately in view of the latest developments in Germany. He asked that the doors of Palestine be thrown open to all Jews who can be saved.
