Characterizing as “mere evasion” and “most ridiculous excuse conceivable” the recent statement by Lord Beaverbrook of the DAILY EXPRESS that he declines to divulge the names of the “Committee of British Jews” who, he said, had asked him to oppose Zionism for fear the individuals would be subjected to abuse, the JEWISH WORLD today insists it is imperative that the names be known so that those implicated shall not be left under suspicion.
Lord Beaverbrook’s statement about a “Committee of British Jews” who urged him to fight Zionism suggested men like Mr. Henriques Claude, Montefiore, Lionel de Rothschild and other opponents of Zionism, declares the JEWISH WORLD. But, it adds, “we could not believe any or these behaved in the way imputed.”
The WORLD fears, however, that although the Board of Jewish Deputies and the Anglo-Jewish Committee are absolved of suspicion, the League of British Jews is not.
The WORLD finally demands that Sir Alfred Mond say what he knows of the matter, because Lord Beaverbrook had said Sir Alfred was once in clse alliance with the men responsible.
